

The students coordinate activities of the council to promote youth leadership. Youth Council members are selected from private and public high schools and middle schools located in Somerset County. The Somerset County Youth Council was established to help develop youth’s leadership skills and to give them a forum for expressing their ideas and concerns to the Board of County Commissioners. EmPoWER supports individuals and families with making positive lifestyle choices by promoting healthy, drug-free communities through education, collaboration, and connection to resources. Middle Earth is a nonprofit agency that mentors youth by helping to foster life skills as well as preparing for the employment process. Students can participate in volleyball, basketball, relay races, tie-dye, slime making and more. Safe Night is a national substance abuse and violence prevention program for youth that promotes having fun without the use of alcohol, drugs, weapons, or arguments. Students will receive three and a half hours of community service learning.

This is a fun event with food and activities for students in grades seven to twelve to occur on Saturday, May 6, from 5 to 9 p.m., at the Franklin Youth Center, on 429 Lewis St. Register for “Field Day,” a Safe Night event for teens hosted by the Somerset County Youth Council.
